In Taivalkoski in north-eastern Finland, just 60 km from the Ruka Ski Center, you can fully enjoy the spectacular Finnish nature. Regardless of the season, you can get wonderful experiences that will gild your memories for a long time to come.

Our living and outdoor areas are located in Jokijärvi village, in the middle of the protective forest and surrounded by water. Here you hear nothing but the beautiful and soothing sounds of nature.

Inside Jokijärvi village you will find a small grocery store where you can stock up. Here is also the famous Finnish author Kalle Päätalo's childhood home, which now serves as a museum .

You are welcome alone, with family and friends, or with your youth, sports and retirement groups. Companies and organizations are also welcome for both outdoor activities and conferences.

Hiking

Jokijärvi is home to a large selection of hiking trails, many equipped with wind shelters and grilling stations.

Cycling

Cycle along the roads in beautiful scenery or on the trails in nature. Bring your own or rent from us.

Hunting

There are good hunting opportunities in the state's forest areas near Nordic Lakes.

Taivalvaara Ski Center

Fifteen minutes from us is the Taivalvaara ski center in Taivalkoski, which has well-groomed lit trails for cross country skiing, seven slopes for skiing/snowboarding with a humpback and several ski jumps.

Other winter activities

In the area there is a sled run for young and old. We also have snowshoes for hiking on loose snow.

Fishing

Fish whenever you want! With the possibility of year round fishing you can catch a variety of fish such as pike, grayling, perch or whitefish. A fishing boat is available.

Swimming, bathing and sauna

Swim in the lake, bathe in the sauna or relax in the heated whirlpool all year round.

Northern Lights

During dark evenings and nights you have the possibility to enjoy the beautiful natural phenomenon Aurora Borealis.

Ruska

During ruska, nature works as a fantastic spectacle where the colors change from day to day. The best time to enjoy the autumn coloring is in September-October.

Ski

Go cross country skiing right from the door! There are many tracks to follow. Or choose the Taivalvaara ski center in Taivalkoski with 6 km of lit trails.

Paddling

Canoe, kayak or why not try our stand up paddleboards.

Other summer activities

Volleyball, frisbee, ping-pong, croquet, boules, darts, badminton. Equipment is available on site.

Snowmobile

Ride a snowmobile directly from the door. Snowmobile trails run just outside the site and snowmobiles are available for rent on site.

Grill

Do you like to grill? We have an outdoor barbecue area, and a grilling hut.

Berry picking

In Finland, the right of public access means that everyone has the right to pick berries and mushrooms in nature. You can find blueberries, lingonberries, raspberries and cloudberries, among other things.
